Central Iowa Chapter

About WLL

Women, Land & Legacy (WLL) is a locally led initiative empowering and connecting women interested in agriculture and conservation, fostering support and opportunities using a bottoms-up approach that prioritizes their voices.

Many Iowa women already own farmland, know someone who does, or may inherit a family farm. And a growing number of women actively farm, are considering a career in farming, or are in another type of agricultural career.

WLL offers women the opportunity to network with other local women farmers and landowners to become well-informed decision makers. WLL began connecting local women networks in 2004 and continues to expand across Iowa.

Participating in WLL will help you:
🌻 Connect with other women landowners and operators.
🌻 Meet resource professionals who can help with farm and conservation services and programs.
🌻 Become empowered with the information needed to make the best decisions for your land and farm business.
🌻 Expand your knowledge and build long-lasting networks.

WLL connects government and non-proft organizations with agricultural and rural women to assist them in farming and conservation decisions.

How It Works

Women, Land & Legacy is a bottom-up program that recognizes the unique and diverse land and agricultural interests, practices, and needs throughout the state.  Local teams form in counties made up of representatives from USDA agencies, non-agency, Extension, Soil & Water Conservation Districts and other community partners to provide direct outreach to agricultural women and other women connected to land issues.

The outreach is based on local educational and networking needs through Learning Sessions, which are meetings that cover a range of topics and styles of presentation.  Local conversations between and with women produce the foundation for educational strategies for women in agriculture in each county.

Teams utilize this information to inform future educational programs (Learning Sessions). Listening, networking, and connecting with other women and community resources are foundations of Women, Land & Legacy, making it a truly unique program in Iowa.
